Streptococcal sore throat

ICD10: Streptococcal pharyngitis [J02.0]

Treatment: Antimicrobial coverage- Adult doses

Acute onset of sore throat and positive rapid antigen of group A Streptococcus (GAS) pharyngitis.


The goal of treatment of GAS is to prevent acute rheumatic fever, reduce the severity and duration of symptoms, and prevent transmission.

Success criteria: 1- treating acute infection 2- prevention of Acute complication e.g: peritonsillar abscess & Invasive disease 3- prevention of delayed complication
